Upward trajectory for private sector loans under management in Q3 2024

Significant increase in the nominal value of private sector loans occurred in the third quarter of 2024, according to Bank of Greece data. Specifically, the value of loans managed by domestic management companies and transferred to specialized financial institutions abroad increased by EUR 1.012 billion, reaching a total of EUR 70.780 billion From EUR 69.768 billion in the previous quarter.

Loans to Enterprises

The nominal value of business loans increased to EUR 23.156 billion at the end of the third quarter, compared to EUR 22.788 billion in the previous quarter. Of this amount:

  • EUR 23.117 billion for non-financial corporations (NFCs), with an increase of EUR 367 million.
  • EUR 11.101 billion in loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In addition, loans to other financial institutions increased slightly by EUR 1 million.

Loans to self-employed persons, farmers and sole proprietorships

The value of loans to this category increased by EUR 313 million, reaching EUR 9.410 billion at the end of the third quarter.

Loans to Individuals and Non-Profit Institutions

Loans to individuals and private non-profit institutions increased by EUR 331 million, bringing the total value to EUR 38.214 billion. In more detail:

  • Consumer loans increased by EUR 123 million, reaching EUR 15.760 billion.
  • Mortgage loans increased by EUR 209 million to EUR 22.165 billion.

The steady upward trend in the value of private sector loans under management suggests increased activity and mobility in the market. Small and medium-sized enterprises and individuals continue to hold a significant share of the overall picture, while mortgage and consumer loans confirm their momentum in the financial sector.
